Every Scout unit needs a strong foundation — fun programs, trained leaders, engaged Scouts, and adequate funding. Learn the basics of unit fundraising and how your team can raise funds responsibly and effectively.
Quick Facts About Unit Fundraising:
- Units are not 501(c)(3) organizations and cannot receive tax-deductible gifts. Your Chartering Organization must handle tax matters.
- Every fundraising project should have a clear goal and purpose.
- Scouts may not wear uniforms while conducting fundraising activities.
- Your chartering organization must approve all fundraising projects.
- Follow the Katahdin Area Council Unit Fundraising Guidelines to ensure compliance.
Unit Money-Earning Application
If your unit plans a fundraiser other than selling Camp Cards or Popcorn, you must complete the Unit Money-Earning Application and submit it to the Katahdin Area Council for approval. This national BSA form ensures all fundraising projects follow proper rules and allows the Council to respond to any public questions about your fundraiser.
Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to your event. You can mail, scan, or fax the form to the Council.
